This pioneering event delivers cycling experiences riders asked for that are not available elsewhere.
No, it’s not yet another single-day road ride. This is entirely different.

Drops + Hoods – Snowy Mountains is the most exciting cycling event in recent times
Drops + Hoods was developed based on the feedback we received from thousands of riders, augmented with learnings from the global pandemic. Rather than one massive ride, Drops + Hoods combines multiple medium-sized rides, making them low impact for the local community, fun to ride and safe to operate. Lateral Events is ever at the forefront of innovation in events, and we are excited to reveal Drops + Hoods.

Multiple surfaces
Road and gravel events give you the chance to try something new and mix up your disciplines. Bring the whole family, and bring your friends – there is something for everyone.

Multiple distances
From the short and easy, through to Australia’s most challenging, again – there is something for everyone. This is your chance to bring with you those new to cycling to absorb the thrill, euphoria, and camaraderie of a major cycling event, with a variety of challenge levels all will be comfortable with.

Multiple Days
Run over three days, Drops + Hoods is an event that will make the trip to the Snowy Mountains worthwhile. Try your legs on different distances and surfaces each day and enjoy everything the region has to offer in between.

The Official L’Étape Australia by Tour de France Legacy event
Drops + Hoods is organised by the owners of L’Étape Australia, that put the Snowy Mountains on the map for cyclists since 2016. Drops + Hoods brings you the official legacy routes of the L’Étape Australia Race and Ride. You know you have unfinished business at Col de Beloka!

Announcing the most challenging and the highest ride in Australia – 265km / 4,874m
Not for the fainthearted, this ride will test your endurance. At 265km with 4,874 height meters, this ride takes you over the highest paved road in Australia. Starting in Jindabyne, this route travels to Rocky Plains, Berridale, Dalgety, Beloka, past Thredbo to Siberia, then Perisher and Charlotte Pass (the highest paved road in Australia), before a long descent to Jindabyne and a well-earned Kosciuszko Pale Ale.

Immerse yourself in the Snowy Mountains Community

Our wonderful local volunteers and the local community will be on hand during each day to cheer you on as you pass through each village.

‘This is Our Village’ – Night-time entertainment, hospitality, and a warm welcome
We have teamed up with the local community to provide a warm welcome across the region called ‘This is Our Village’. From Dalgety to Thredbo, Jindabyne to Berridale, Lake Crackenback to Perisher, a plethora of special events and entertainment will be laid on, especially for riders. Enjoy each night in a different location, immerse yourself in the hospitality of the Snowy Mountains and discover the best in entertainment, food, local beer, wine and Schnapps.
